Q: We are working with a client that wants to extract data from our Data Warehouse and create a local file to be used as input to their downstream systems. What can they do?A: They can use Oracle sqlplus to connect and "spool" a file on their local server. They can format the output file in many ways to meet their requirements. 'sqlplus' has many formatting commands to make this easy for them. Google 'sqlplus format commands'. Example: set feedback off; set heading off; set pagesize 0; spool c:\myoutput.txt select to_char(sysdate,'yyyy-mm-dd') "NOW" from dual; spool off;
Q: When developing a new PL/SQL procedure in Oracle I am receiving an error 'ORA-00942 table or view does not exist'. I know that my account has access to all the tables in my code since I can select, insert, update, delete from all of them. What's the problem?A: For PL/SQL to be compiled, the owner of the code must have explicit grants to the objects. Our standard is to have the code compiled under an Application acccount or possibly the Data owner itself. If you want your code to compile in your own account, place a copy of the tables in your account.
Q: When I signon to my Discoverer Connection, I don't see any of my reports. What could be the problem?A: A strong possibility is that your End-User-Layer setting is incorrectly set. Edit your Discoverer Connection by clicking on the pencil icon. Provide your credentials and click Apply. Another page should then appear, for HR/Financials set the EUL=DW_DSC, for Course/Student areas set the EUL=DM_DSC.
Q: When I try to signon to Discoverer I receive an error message saying my username/password is invalid and I know I am entering the correct values. What can I try to fix this issue? A: 1) Clear your browser cache....2) Delete any shortcuts on your desktop you might be using for this service...3) Launch the url provided by EAS (rias-gateway.rutgers.edu/discoverer/plus)...4) signon via CAS...5) Delete existing Discoverer Connection...6) Create new Discoverer Connection using known NETID/password and correct EUL entry...7) Close browser and restart a new browser and attempt to signon to Discoverer again
Q: My Discoverer Connection no longer works. What are the desktop browser requirements for using Discoverer? A: Supported desktop browser versions for using RIAS (and Discoverer) can be found here: http://rias.rutgers.edu/technical-help/technical-information
Q: Why am I receiving an ORA-00942 in development?A: It can be caused by a few common cases. Either your account does not have access to the object, there is no public synonym for the object or you typed in the incorrect name of the object.
Q: I changed my NETID password and now I can't login to Discoverer. What do I do?A: You need to update your Discoverer Connection by clicking on the "pencil" icon. Enter your new NETID Password and click APPLY (do NOT click "Change Password").
Q: Another developer said they updated a table for me in the DEV tier but I don't see the changed data, why?A: It is likely that the person updating the table did not COMMIT the changed data and therefore it is not available to your session.
Q: My web application in Development keeps throwing errors (page cannot be displayed) and it doesn't give others a problem...what can I try?A: Try clearing your browser's cache and/or delete the browser's cookies. Try other browsers (and other browser versions) as well to help eliminate issues.

Q: How do I know if the latest CDW and SDW data has been loaded from the mainframe?A: See our Reports tab and look for "EAS Batch Runs" to see the latest run and its status. If you need some runtime history, it is also available under "CDW/SDW Loads".
Q: Is there a place where I can look to determine what data elements are available in the Student, Course or Admissions data stores?A: You can use the online data dictionary to view a variety of data-elements from a number of Business Areas we support. https://dictionaries.rutgers.edu/dictionary/
Q: We are working with a client outside of EAS who is using a new Departmental account to perform daily data extracts from our Data Warehouse. They are receiving an error that suggests that the EAS firewall is blocking their access. What can we do to assist?A: Have the client contact the DBA team via HDRT ticket and provide the username and the IP_Address of the machine attempting the connection. DBA will confirm that the IP Address is configured and permitted to access our environment. The client should also provide the "connect string" they are attempting. It may be a simple matter of adding ".WORLD" to the database name in question. [never provide passwords in HDRT tickets and/or email].
Q: My desktop had its java software upgraded to the latest version, now when I use Discoverer it no longer works, what is the problem?A: You have likely upgraded java to a higher version than is supported by our current version of Discoverer. If you receive messages for "Security Exception"/"com.sun.deploy.net JAR Signing" try navigating to....Control Panel....Java....Java Control Panel "General" tab..."Temporary Internet Files" section...click "Settings..." button. UNCHECK the checkbox for "Keep temporary files on my computer." Click "OK". Restart your browser and retry.
